Battlefield 3: Back to Karkand – Wake Island concept art

It seems that the inevitable return of Wake Island in the latest iteration of the Battlefield series is to have a darker twist.

On the official Battlefield 3 site, the second part of a behind-the-scenes look at the game’s first expansion, Back to Karkand, has revealed details of the maps that will be added, including the much-anticipated Wake Island.

From the looks of the concept art released, the Battlefield 3: Back to Karkand version of Wake Island will be portrayed in a much more gritty manner. Gone are the sun soaked shores and white beaches, replaced with a dreary rain scene, which shows post-battle effects throughout.
